About us:

Lochmühle Amusement Park has been an extraordinary and popular attraction in the Rhine-Main area for over 40 years.

Grown to a size of 16 hectars, the park nowadays attracts visitors from all over Germany, but still offers quiet sanctuaries even on busy days.

As a former corn mill and farm the "Lochmühle" chooses to distinguish itself from larger, highly mechanised parks. Instead of having a few big rides with long waiting lines, the park relies on a broad variety in a countryside setting.

Guests can choose from about 100 playing and exercising items, romp along a river´s natural course or on meadows, play with indigenous animals in the petting zoo and even watch baby chicks hatch with a bit of luck. Our offer is rounded off by the possibility to picknick and barbecue in groups of all sizes.

Experiencing nature and animals, playing and fooling around, being able to spend time with the family and doing things together: This exciting mix and the possibility of self-development make up a combination appreciated by school classes, kindergardens and families.

History

As you may have guessed: The name of our mascot "Polo" is made up of "Po" from "pony" and "Lo", which stands for "Lochmühle". Being in touch with animals and life on a farm is very important to us.

The Lochmühle mill, located in a picturesque valley with the Erlenbach creek, has a diversified history to look back onto: It was first mentioned in the 13th century and served again and again as a meeting point for figures shunning the light as it bordered a forest and was situated between the territories of two princes. About 200 years ago the ancestor of today´s owners ran the mill and the farm. With industrialization prevailing, the Lochmühle mill was closed down as were many other rural mills. At the same time the public inn became more and more popular. A train service connecting the Lochmühle with the Saalburg helped to attract townspeople on Sundays.

After World War II, the Lochmühle area was used by the family purely for agricultural means. When he had to give up agriculture because of health problems, the founder of the Park Theo Zwermann decided to establish a little pony breeding farm. By buying the two Shetland Ponies Heidi and Susi he lay the foundation stone for a horseback riding business. Both his daughters had lots of fun with the Shetland Ponies, and also their friends kept visiting the Lochmühle to go pony riding and the it developed to a pony riding centre with up to 70 ponies in the 1970ies. Additionally, discarded tractors were set up all over the area for playing. The first "real" rides were small self-made cartwheel roundabouts. In the course of time, the number of rides and other opportunities for play increased. The playing objects and grilling places that were additionally offered gained popularity and the park of its own developed, doubling its size through time through new land purchases. Today about 150 attractions are distributed across an area measuring 16 hectares. Children can speed down a giant slide, ride a rollercoaster and roundabouts, float about the Erlenbach on rafts or enjoy a tour of the whole park in the "Polo-Express". It is possible to feed goats, sheep and chickens in the petting zoo, and if you are lucky, you might see little chicks hatch in the animal nursery. The park offers picnic and barbeque huts as well as barbeque places which can accommodate groups of various size. The interesting story of the Lochmühle Amusement was written down by Theo Zwermann in an illustrated booklet, which can be acquired for a small fee at the park.
